Tyler Perry continues to evolve as a film maker and this is definitely his best yet. Taraji P. Henson delivers a knock out performance and elevates the film. Little known fact, Taraji's entire time filming this film was only four days. Very surprised how great Sherri Shepherd was and Teyana Taylor was finally given a meaty dramatic role. So many powerful messages in this movie from black women of different ages, backgrounds and levels of empathy. It has stayed with me. Excellent work by all.

Mayhem may be “a return to her roots” but in no way does Lady Gaga reheat her own nachos here. Abracadabra is one of the best pop songs I’ve heard in years, but it’s an evolution not a redo. The genre bending works beautifully here. And some of the amateurish experimental early songs , especially from Artpop. are recast as fully formed fantastic songs that bring the same excitement without the weird. Chromatica is my favorite Gaga album, but Mayhem is simply a better body of work. Perhaps her best.

Even getting past the implausible plot, this is a tremendous waste of two incredible actors. And while the script doesn't give them much to work with, it's their performances that stink. Taron Egerton looks like he is so bored he may fall asleep. He puts no effort into anything, including his action scenes. And Jason Bateman is basically Marty Byrd when he had to deliver one of his famous monotone "do as I say" monologues. Again, a "what am I doing HERE?" performance. I was praying he didn't Executive Produce this drivel. Thank God...no. It passed away two hours over a sleepy holiday break. That's the best I can muster.

Found Heaven

This is not a rom com. It’s a very lighthearted romance movie not a comedy. In Anne Hathaway’s deft hands this movie works beautifully despite what would be a flimsy premise. After watching every project Nicholas Galatzine has done, he could have chemistry with a lamppost, and he brings a great nuance to the character. It’s well written, well acted and very sweet without being sappy. I really enjoyed it.

This is way too much of a mediocre thing. Self indulgent to a fault (and listen she deserves to make any type of art she wants. She's more than earned her right) Most of the songs sound so similar they just get monotonous. At least when a synth gets thrown in there's something to break up the next piano or acoustic guitar drone. And the "surprise" songs sound like true throwaways that shouldn't have made the cut (which is rare for Taylor). I'll stick to the original 17 album tracks and give a very good listen to the lyrics. I'm sure I'll be blown away by some of the songwriting. Sonically it's not going to do it for me. Team Beyonce for AOTY.

I’ve always listened intently Beyoncé’s work and loved several of her songs. This. Is a completely different level of brilliance. I’ve never felt that Beyoncé was “robbed” when she lost the Grammy for AOTY. Other albums those years were a bit better for various reasons. This, however, is a landmark album. Taylor and Billie have albums on the way. Not this year ladies. It’s literally impossible to make a better, more culturally important album than Cowboy Carter. It’s her masterpiece.
