I've been holding my breath since finding out this was being created, and now I can finally breathe! The series has kept it's quirkiness, humor, and action as the original. All the iconic side characters we love still make appearances (though in different orders). Several episodes of the original are combined into the Netflix episodes in reasonable and sometimes clever ways. There are couple times when I may have reworded the script, but nothing too bad that I'm not willing to overlook. It's had my husband and I laughing and feeling nostalgic from reliving our favorite series.

The only reason I give 2 stars is because is stays pretty true to the original story and the adult actors are great. Other than that, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are pretty deadpan with little expression. The writing is way over the top with melodramatic speeches every 3 minutes. It just comes off as way too cheesy and gets tiring of taking itself way too seriously. All the scenes that take place in dark lighting are WAY too dark to the point I can't tell what's going on at all.

As a warning for those, like me, who are easily overstimulated, this movie gave me a really bad panic attack. The artwork is very beautiful, but to say that the last third of the movie is a psychedelic trip is an understatement. Don't expect just a cute pleasant story- it goes over the deep end quite a bit.

This movie gets a lot more flack than it deserves. This movie is MEANT to be a different interpretation of the original film, NOT a simple copy-paste from animated to real life like many of the other live-action remakes have been. I think that Disney's decision to make some general changes were very wise. It takes on a more serious tone while still being family-friendly with it's moments of fun and creative battle scenes. It focusses more on a realistic application of the culture, which it nails. The one thing I would have like to seen at the end is the more fun and happy side of Mulan that we only see at the very beginning. She's understandable somber during the war considering the weight of the situation, but we should have seen her finally glowing at the very end.
