A Nostalgic Review of Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi (1966)
Today I watched 'Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi', a 1966 classic, and was taken on a nostalgic journey. The film was originally started by the legendary Guru Dutt, but due to his untimely demise, it was completed by Shaheed Latif. The music, composed by O.P. Nayyar, is timeless, and one song that stood out is
"Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe Aaj Naya Noor Hai... Mera Dil Machal Gaya Toh Mera Kya Kasoor Hai"...
This iconic song is what drew me to watch the film, and it's available on YouTube. Another song also a hit song..
Badal jaaye agar maali..chaman hota nahi khali..Baharen phir bhi aati hain..Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi..
The film's story is a love triangle involving Dharmendra, Tanuja, and Mala Sinha. Dharmendra Ji's performance is commendable, but I couldn't help thinking how Guru Dutt Sahab would have brought a unique depth to the role. The Guru Dutt impact is missing in this film, unlike his other classics like Chaudhvin Ka Chand (directed by M. Sadiq) and Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam (directed by Abrar Alvi).
Also in cinematography the effect and use of lens we used to see in Gurudutt Films by Cameraman V K Murty, in this film missing by K G Prabhakar. Though he tried to take some shadowy shots, but not eye catching.
The supporting cast, including Rehman Sahab , Deven Varma Ji, and Johnny Walker sahab , delivered solid performances. Johnny Walker was, as usual, in his stereotypical role, but Rehman stole the show with his brief yet impressive presence. One scene that left a lasting impression was Rehman's expressive face in the last scene, which brought tears to my eyes.
Interestingly, the film also highlights the importance of a free press, emphasizing that newspapers should not come under pressure from investors or board of directors and should remain fearless in their reporting.
Overall, Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi is a successful film, but it lacks the magic that Guru Dutt's presence would have brought. Nonetheless, it's a classic worth watching for its music, performances, and historical significance.
