I became curious about the real Sabina Spielrein, played by Keira Knightly in this film. Contemporary photographs of Spielrein reveal her to have been vibrantly alive (and passionate?), strands of hair escaping from her not particularly neat bun, her eyes shining with high intelligence and understanding, and a suggestion somehow of her being a bit cooky and crazy. I wouldn't have cast Miss Knightly in this role.
