SPOILERS I played both part 1 and 2 back to back for the first time within this past week. I loved part 1. I was so excited for part 2 and assumed it would be more focused on Joel and Ellie, however it is a revenge story. Nothing is wrong with that but the issue was the execution. Before getting into the story I wanted to give some great mentions! The graphics were incredible, top notch voice acting, intense combat and realism and the violence my God. This game kept me on my toes. Here’s what frustrated me, Joel’s death and how early it happened. It was not executed properly. Joel’s character had room to provide Ellie that father like figure in her life. That should have happened prior and it would have made more of an impact. Playing Abby for SO LONG was killing me. I wanted to get on with the story but my God they forced me to like her and feel sorry for her when I didn’t want to. The the writers even made me fight Ellie which I hated. Ellie is who we all love, not Abby. Not to mention Abbys huge arms which drove me nuts lol. But I just wanted to get back to Ellie but no. It was a slow burn playing as Abby and could have been done quicker. The ending literally has NO resolution. What happened to Tommy? What happens to Abby and Lev? What happens to Dina and the baby? Where is Ellie going? Why could have Abby and Ellie at the end have a heart to heart to at least explain each other’s hurt and pain and forgive one another and work together to get out of there? Nope. The game left me feeling empty and frustrated although, it still gets a 4/5 because it’s an incredible game and deserves it. The story is where it struggles but everything else is incredible.
