Ok, so I was forced to modify my initial review; I'm sure you all agree if you were brave enough to traipse the muddled season 2.
Season 2 seemed to be vastly different from season 1. I had a pretty tough time getting through it - fast-forwarding, falling asleep, yawning were all helpful tricks in getting me thru this all too predictable rendering. The acting did not help! Jeesh! To think these people were paid is an insult to the craft!
Before starting the season, my expectations were very low, but seems I set the bar too high? Those Shawarma sisters were just a dull distraction and rather annoying as was Eloise this season! Remember Siena Rosso the opera singer in season 1 who had a clandestine relationship with Anthony Bridgerton? Well, that performance heavily eclipsed the chemistry between Anthony and Kate in season 2. I would have rather Anthony marry the opera singer as his desire for her burned through the screen last season. Clearly, Anthony and Kate should have remained distant friends - no chemistry whatsoever! WTH? I don't know if we should have been so demanding for another season! Sadly, it's too disappointing. Only time will help us recover :(
This series was long-awaited! A strong beginning to my new love affair. The chemistry between the actors is extraordinary! It has been challenging to find something delightful, witty, suspenseful, intriguing, heartfelt, charming, warm, and yet tasteful to watch in a fictional period romance for quite some time. Brava! You've captured this and left us hungry for more. Once again, our lives are donned with hope, love, and with a racial twist adding beautiful colors to boot! What a lovely glimpse of what could be in a world of truly equals. After the end of the mini-series Downtown Abbey, it felt like the dusk of an era for a great novel to screen tv translation. Not so, I stand most happily corrected by the introduction to The Bridgertons! Excellent work, author, screenwriter, director, cast, and producers! Thank you for this well-deserved Christmas gift of your amazing craft and eloquent execution in the wake of such a daunting past year! Brava! Brilliant! Encore! XX
