It’s brilliant, in so many ways. The author gets into Furlong’s psyche and she and reader and Furlong are one. She exposes the evil in the convent, the hypocrisy of the church. The book ends rather abruptly because the author has saved Furlong— he has done what he knew he had to do and he is at the door of his home— ready to face the consequences.
