I played the game on authentic, and I can confirm that the name is a lie. I have a rather good aim so when I keep missing people I get a bit suspicious as to why. So I sneak up to an officer about ten feet away and I try to shoot him in the head and I miss. Every situation I had, the hit detection was just awful to the point I just ran in and started gunning people down with the Thompson (which appeared more accurate than the Springfield I was given). I tried calculating for distance, I tried to calculate for wind (Which I don't think is even a real factor) and I literally could not shoot someone to save my life. I would have loved to see how the game ended but I could not handle just killing everyone with the sub-machine guns, in a game called Sniper Elite.
