I have to say I am very, very surprised by all the positive reviews for the film even in rotten tomatoes.. For the first time in a MI movie, I was dying for the movie to be over.. monologue after monologue (with monotone and old MI scenes) about the story trying to re-connect all the entire historical MI movies.. At one point I thought to myself am I meant to walk out with a doctorate on Mission Impossible when I walk out of this cinema or what?.. I mean come on guys I am just there to enjoy some beverages and food, the cinema comfort with my partner get some adrenaline rushes from the action with some fun here and there keeping things light for a Friday.. but man they went on and on and on about the story over and over again.. it's supposed to be an action movie for crying out aloud.. people already know it's larger than life - move on. It does have it's high octane action moments but only very, very late into the movie after you have really tried to struggle to stay awake - It's the same villain Gabriel and ironically he's working hard to keep Tom alive for most of the movie.. He only comes in the very beginning and very end so much of the movie is Tom working on the mission and well as audience monitoring his project progress.. even that project monitoring became a chore when suddenly Tom end up with parachutes and survive hypothermias & drowning out of nowhere.
The supporting cast was there mainly for you to check whether the diversity equity and inclusion policy was being followed- nothing entertaining or of real importance going on there for most parts.. Same usual scenes about a bunch gathering around the President with usual same boring politics amongst themselves with no real action and same usual scenes about instructions to diffuse bombs cutting red/green wires etc -- recycling all these pre-historic stuff over and over again..
I can't believe Christopher Mcquarrie directed it & the film really missed Balfe.. I don't know whether I was busy or what but I didn't also see Tom Cruise doing his usual promoting of this movie much - maybe he knew this was not for his fans.
