I stayed for the whole film but really had to force myself to. The portrayal of Dianna was so poor. I know she was suffering mentally but they made her out to be an insufferable child screaming for attention. It wasn’t sad, it was annoying, you almost sided with the family.
The break of continuity in the first 5 minutes absolutely threw me. The attention to detail was terrible throughout the film which is surprising considering the subject matter and budget. It was very sloppy.
Kristen Stewart had me captivated at times but not very often, you could tell that she was trying to shake that classic ‘hard done by’ thing she does but alas it popped up often. And the whole Anne Boleyn thing?! That was utterly bizarre.
In saying all that, it did have a very uncomfortable thickness to it. You felt anxious all the way and totally uneasy. Very similar feeling to 127 hours during the (spoiler for those whom haven’t seen it) severeing of the arm scene.
Factually there are big holes too but that’s a whole other review.
