SPOILER REVIEW What would have made this movie 5 stars for me is if she had gone with Amir to the institute after pulling off two of her own fingernails, tested them against each other, and figured out that SHE DOESN’T LOVE HERSELF. Alternatively, if she tested them against each other and the machine was just BOGUS. Something else. To end that way… pfft. She never has to go home to her boyfriend or deal with the consequences of her own actions? I only watched this because I love the three main male actors, Riz Ahmed, Jeremy Allen White, and Luke Wilson. Don’t bother, unless you like movies that make zero sense (read the other spoiler review on here with the list of LEGIT intelligent questions about the multiple loopholes in the plot) and end on pointless cliffhangers. 2/5 because the acting was good despite a terrible storyline.

Very staccato plot rhythm. To be honest, I didn't watch it in one sitting, I got bored and came back to try it again a different day. Some points were better than others. The main girl seemed to be a bit flat... maybe it was her interpretation of her character or bad writing. The protagonist showed definitive personal growth/was not static. The actor who played him seemed like he was the only really good actor in the film, other than maybe the weird taxi guy. Meh. Something to keep you distracted if you're looking for a movie to play in the background while you do a boring chore.
