Okay guys hear me out. I'm a lesbian, right? Some of my favourite shows are SPOP, The Owl House, Steven Universe and Kipo, kay? And this show. This show isn't perfect. No no no, it's far from perfect. There are so many cringeworthy moments, very much outdated humour (I swear if I hear the word "slay" again...), and a lot of dubious copyright issues (like the gay bar and drag queens who didn't get credit). The characters are basically - the jock with the greek god bod, the James Charles, the emo Entrapta, the black butch and misogynistic Jim Hopper. They are all very stereotypical, each of them being a caricature of a certain 90s/2000s gay cliche. Further, we cannot tout the Q-Force as being diverse, as many have pointed out, where are the bisexuals? Where are the transexuals? The asexuals? Basically, where are characters who identify as the other letters following L and G?
Ok, with all this being said...my opinion is that, the show doesn't deserve all the hate that it has received. With the cast and crew, the best I can say about the show is that.. it's trying. I'm not sure whether it's genuine, but it's attempting to be. The show might be coming from a place of love, and despite poor execution, it still has something to offer to the post-2020s audience. Not gonna lie, I did laugh at some parts, and I do enjoy seeing myself represented in certain moments of the show. All we can do now is to give the show constructive criticism, and guide the show towards a direction that strives for better representation. Let's not continue with the blind, mob-driven polemic.
(Also, what's with all the straights giving this show 5 stars LMAO like did y'all read that one review calling it the lgbt LIFESTYLE this killed me inside a little)
