In the past, I've been to the MET and seen about 20 operas in person.
(I haven't been to NYC since 2008.) However, I LOVE seeing the operas Live in HD at the movie theater too. (I haven't done this since before Covid.) At the MET, if you're late after an intermission, you won't be admitted to your seat. You have to watch the show from a large flat screen TV until the next break if there is one! This happened to me! You can come and go from the movie theater as you like, and you can eat/drink your snacks too. NO food or drinks are allowed in the opera house at the MET! An opera movie theater ticket is about $25.00. I've never paid less than $95 at the MET, and I sat in the middle balcony! I had to pay for airfare to and hotel in NYC too. Also, at the movies, you can see everything! If you go to the MET, invest in some binoculars!
