While the plot may be a little muddled and the story can get mildly confusing, this show has very little need for the hate it gets. While some view it as homophobic, fat-shaming, or other bad things, look at it from this perspective: It shows that accepting yourself is hard, whether you become skinny overnight or Nonnie’s struggle with her sexuality. This show has some very deep characters. From Patty’s quest for revenge that has a very real motive, Bob Armstrong’s quest for redemption, Brick’s quest for understanding, Nonnie’s quest for the answers to her sexuality, to Coralie’s struggle with her past and present. The characters may sometimes be superficial or annoying, but that’s because of the world of the show.
Trust me, it’s not a show for the faint of heart or the “delicate”. There is crass humor and black humor a lot, but guess what? It adds so much!! It’s a great instillation of Netflix’s wild, zany, over the top comedies with hints of drama like The Politician. It’s honestly a misunderstood show, and it deserves a viewing from a perspective of kindness and compassion. It’s not perfect, but like the first trailer says:
It’s a coming of rage story. And to me, it delivers on that promise. While i don’t care much for the pageants, it makes me feel bad for people who are forced into them. But this show is honestly a wild ride and an easy watch if you’re in the mood to see some crazy shizzle go down
