The Card Counter is the kind of film you keep waiting to see where it's heading because it's anything but clearcut. Oscar Isaac was superb in his role as an Iraq vet suffering from PTSD who seems to be "coasting" through life until he meets Cirk whose only ambition is to avenge his father's death. I must agree with another critic's comments about Tiffany Haddish. There were times when she was believable and others where you wonder why she was cast in the role of La Linda. The Card Counter is not everyone's cup of tea, but it was mine.
