The story takes a very long time to get to the point. If I hadn’t read one of the reviews midway through watching the movie I would have given up. But even so, the ending was just mildly interesting. This is one of the most boring movies I’ve ever watched and only did so because of the actors in it. The title also is very misleading.

I love Clint Eastwood movies and though somewhat flawed this is worth seeing through the end as painful as it may be at times. The writing, directing and acting suffer immediately as the setup for the story lacks energy. The “you owe me” part was a tad weak and could have used something more. But one of the saddest parts is when Mr. Eastwood wants us to believe the beautiful sexy young woman who plays the boy’s mother wants to seduce him and is actually angry when he rebukes her. He’s still handsome for his age but this was asking too much of us. He should have let casting bring in someone else for the part. No offense but someone maybe 30 years younger. Still old enough to play a grandfather part but young enough for us to believe the scene. Also the fights with the tough guys. Really? He gets the best of them? In a part of Mexico where he would have more likely been shot and buried? I haven’t read the story this is based on but it just was too much even for a sucker for feel good movies like me. Still I would recommend watching. It does have its moments. I just hope this isn’t the last role for Mr. Eastwood and that his next is more suitable because he can still bring me in.

A bit stereotypical but a wonderful view of some of the most amazing talents of the day. Cantinflas is a Mexican stereotype that he created which was even more exaggerated in this film but his enormous talents keep up with everyone. The dance number with Debbie Reynolds alone is worth sitting through the movie.

I have a new found respect for Mia Farrow as well as all her children, especially Dylan and Ronan. What courage and strength Mia has to have placed the welfare of her children before her own. And kudos to HBO for making such a thorough investigation of the facts. Every parent should watch this.

Love how this movie takes us back so sweetly to more innocent days.

Smaltzy and self obsessed. You do have to say you’re sorry. Spoiled rich kid and spoiled lower middle class kid trade nauseating barbs and fall in love.
