Lovely story with a charming cast. Borrows a bit from “Love, Actually” with Jameela Jamil providing the Rowan Atkinson assist popping up as a Greek chorus of sorts, but as rom coms go this does the trick perfectly.

Congrats to ABC for showing us a family with realistic issues and a diverse cast. This show has humor and heart looking at tricky issues like money problems, divorce, career changes and child rearing while still managing to keep us laughing. Network TV is largely behind streaming when it comes to keeping up with how people really act, think, love in today’s world, so it’s refreshing to see this show push the conversations beyond what Modern Family once took on. Bravo.

This show could have been just another law procedural and has won me over with its fresh take on a complex family dynamic, a lively Memphis setting and an outstanding, diverse cast. Yes, many will watch because who doesn’t love the great Jimmy Smits? But stick with this one, as these stories are worth telling and every member of this cast manages to raise the bar on just how fine network TV can be!
