Gotta say, I walked out of this movie beyond disappointed and dissatisfied. It was just a mess. Before I completely tear Rise Of Skywalker apart let me just say, Star Wars has played a big role in my life and means a lot to me. I even loved the prequels which to some are even better now than before. If that’s a case you’ve got a problem. I walked into this movie thinking, “This could either be really good or really bad, don’t have high expectations or it could be ruined”. I walked out completely and utterly angry at this movie, and for a while I didn’t know why. Well first, everything is crammed in to one movie and the pacing was just so off. Second, Remember all that stuff about Anakin being the chosen one? Well Rey Palpatine! Oh excuse me I mean “Rey Skywalker” completely split in half. Before I say anything else let me just say, I have no problem with female led characters in movies today. Wonder Woman, for example had a female superhero who was actually really amazing! Her character was fascinating and she to this day remains the backbone of the DCEU. But in 2017, The Last Jedi came to theaters and I didn’t hate it, but I hated Rose. Her character was written so poorly that every time she was on the screen I felt mildly annoyed by her presence, that was my only problem with it (other than the infamous casino planet). Then now 2019 it occurred to me, I don’t like Rey because Disney made her out to be this perfect hero where she is amazing at everything and super powerful. Well ok if you want to do that, Disney has stated that they wanted strong female characters in Hollywood and that we need more of that today. I agree. But unfortunately they make Rey this perfect do-no-wrong person when a real character has flaws and insecurities. That’s why Luke and Anakin were so popular, right? I’m sure Disney doesn’t really mean for it to come out this way but they seem to wanna make Star Wars a way to push political statements and feminism in our faces. When we don’t need that. It’s a movie franchise that means something to different people, why put political issues of our society and get us fired up over a movie we just want a fun time in? It doesn’t make sense. Also why not teach girls that you don’t have to always be good at something to be a hero and say that what really proves what makes a hero comes from the inside? Or maybe go into the philosophy that there is no good or evil? Why does Hollywood today think we need political beliefs in our movies? Because it’s popular that’s why, and there’s your problem. Star Wars is now a political movie and if that’s the case, I’m out. BYE CHILDHOOD!
