With regards to chickens we used to have chicken huts on wheels. Once harvest was finished the chicken huts complete with chickens was towed into the stubble. They chickens were left locked in the huts for three day, remembering to give them food and water after that the huts were opened the chickens lived on the gleanings in the stubble. They'd go in the huts at night to roost. All we had to do was shut them in at night. I bet you don't read this? The upside was free feed, and the chickens loved scratching for food. The down side, occasionally they'd lay eggs outsid the hut, and you then had foxes to contend with.
