This book is an excellent read, straight forward with no fluffing up the story. The author and 617 crews did very well to take the war to Nazi Germany. He has no regrets and says it was the right thing to do. I agree with him . Some today are questioning the raids value. All are armchair generals, or as the Americans say "Monday morning quarterbacks." Of course there were losses, it was war !
I would have liked to see more raids similar to this, rather than the "Carpet bombing" of large urban areas
How the big Lancs even got to such precise points in the middle of Germany, at 300 feet or less, through flack, bad weather etc, let alone take down two of the three dams at 60 feet at night time, is beyond me. The armchair generals can all go home, thank 617 squadron for their positions today in a democracy, and find something else to whine about !
These crews were very courageous men fighting for a good cause.
