I remember listening to this album for the first time, I went in with different expectations from this album than I should have. Mr. Morale is not Damn., its not To Pimp a Butterfly, Good Kid Mad City, its different than anything than kendrick has ever put out. my first thought after listening to the album was, we waited five years for kendrick to put out a mid album. I was telling people it was mid, I only liked 3 songs, and I was comparing it to j Coles the offseason in how the og's were falling off. this is how mr morale stood with me for a while, until one day I was scrolling through my feed and saw that Tyler the creator had posted his favorite songs of 2022. Me being a huge Tyler fan, I decided to see his favorites and I was surprised to see he had two kendrick songs on his list. I trust Tyler's music taste 100% tho so I decide to give those songs a listen and tbh it was one of the greatest choices ive ever made. The first kendrick song that I listened to on his list was savior which features one of my top 5 favorite rappers baby keem. savior is still my favorite track and I can't stop listening to it. its meaning behind the song is so deep and well thought out Im just amazed that I overlooked this song the first time. this album has made such a huge impact on me and it might be one of the most impactful albums I have ever listened to. While I like TPAB more, you can't compare the two albums cuz they are so different. mr morale is all about kendrick and his mental health. ive listened to these songs and I feel better about myself when I can listen to someone be open about how he is feeling in a culture where it is often overlooked. my favorite songs ranked off the album would be savior, savior (interlude), auntie diaries, Father Time, we cry together, united in grief, worldwide steppers, crown, mother I sober, and mr morale. this album is a solid 9.5/10, aoty for 2022, probably in my top 5 for this decade so far tbh. I can't suggest this album enough, if you were like me in thinking it was mid with ur first listen, just give it one or two more listens and you'll see whut you were missing all along.
