I was very intrigued by the idea of this book and was quite excited to read it, unfortunately the actual experience of reading it is the most frustrating I have ever had. The first half or so was just incredibly boring, it was on par with watching bread go stale. When the plot gains some traction in the second half every new new revelation and slight uptick is brought crashing back to infuriating mediocrity by the overwhelming stupidity of the main character. For all her inner thoughts of outrage she does diddly squat about it but still whines when her non-plans and kept secrets have no positive effects on Anna’s situation. Awful, just awful.

In a movie with few hits and many misses the biggest miss is the character of Milly and the performance of Nico Parker. Among a cast of weak characters Milly is placed at the forefront and arguably the second lead behind the films namesake. The character suffers from dreadfully poor writing, she is a one dimensional placeholder with the standard dead mother to add ‘depth’ and laughably awful dialogue. Judging by the script there was never much hope for Milly, but with a different actress in the role she could have elevated the film. Instead the film is further sunk as Ms. Parker plays the role with all the charisma of a corpse and deader eyes.
