After Life has undoubtedly much to recommend it, particularly the range of characters that rally to the protagonist, Tony, in the wake of losing his undeniably gem of a wife, Lisa, to cancer. Tony is surrounded by people, all with their own problems, who still have energy to spare for him, to help him through his grief. Unfortunately the self indulgent, narcissistic Tony laps it up and still needs more; I couldn't stand him in the end. A bit of a Hamlet, I suppose, unable to get a grip and take positive action. The main difference, of course,is that the play Hamlet is far shorter than this series and has an ending that does not really permit a sequel; with After Life I am afraid you are doomed to one.
