A passable, but anti climactic entry in the series. Sam Neill is good as Damien and, actually looks like a grown up version of the previous Damien!
There is a lot going on in this film. Damiens rise to power, the second coming of Christ, seven Monks trying to assassinate Damien with the kids of Meggido.
All of which makes the film feel overly complicated. The monks going after Damien was a good narrative which really could have carried the film along by itself but by the final third of the film it all falls apart and becomes very tedious.
Gorehounds may find this one appealing as there are several very unpleasant death scenes. The most distressing of which involves a monk getting wrapped in a plastic sheet and burned alive, his body swinging back and fourth from a rope whilst screaming horrendously. Don't let the kids watch that one!
The ending of the film is downright disappointing as Damien dies from a single stab to the back and the final conflict ends there.....
Not great, Not good..... Not terrible
