As a huge fan of the series, You, a part of me, immediately and naturally loved season 3 of the show. However, the other half of me is feeling a little disappointed. Firstly, I thought that this season just had a little too much going on, which isn't necessarily a problem but it's more about how it was all executed. I get that any writers/producers job is to intrigue the audience but this season just had people die so easily and quickly. Season 1 just had a lot more surprise and suspense when it came to the actual murder factor. It was all done pretty tastefully, but the murders in this season were just so ...easy, and conveniently covered up. Along with other things like how (spoiler ahead) Jo just gave Henry away … like … why was that so easy? The show drifted from focusing on the 'creepy/hot stalker man' to just being a show about a murder case being solved. It didn't feel like I was watching You; it felt like watching a very long episode of Criminal minds, as the attention of the essence of the show just shifted. Secondly, Joe’s character was just a little too different for me. In season 1 and 2, we’re introduced to a man that's heavily obsessed with these women and the lengths that he would take to secure them and their happiness. But in season 3, his obsession (which is, what i think, a major part of the show) was just so flakey. He went from having a baby with one woman whom he took a whole season to prove his devotion to, to wanting Natalie, she died and then whoops, he started falling for Marienne. I quite enjoyed how his obsession was prolonged in the previous 2 seasons, but it was so temporary in this season. Secondly, some of the new characters introduced into this season were just a little overbearing. Not that there’s an issue with this, there’s always going to be a few characters in any show that you don’t necessarily like. But characters like Sherry and her husband Cary were honestly just so annoying, along with Sherry’s little clique. I understand that their overwhelming personalities were used as a tactic to evoke the soul of California and its people, but c'mon, these characters had me rolling my eyes every time they popped up. But again, I do understand that their characters were essential to this season and they each played their part very well. Thirdly, I just really disliked how Love’s personality changed. Season 2 introduced us to such a lively soul and minus her crazy-killer attributes, she was a very playful person that I think many people liked. I do understand that Love was dealing with a lot, being a new mom, dealing with the stress from her and her husband's murders, losing her brother, the list goes on, so there wasn’t any real space for her to be all sunshine and rainbows, but I just missed her old personality that was depicted in season 2. I fell in love with her character initially, but in this season, there was no character development for her, it was more like a regression … but maybe that was the point? Idk, all in all, it was a great show and worth the wait.
