I understand a lot of the criticism that is being dropped on this movie and I get that people want to know what the monsters were and where they came from. I can also empathize with the aggravated comments about the blind survivors not bothering to help the sighted survivors, but I do think that leaving these parts unexplained is exactly what makes the movie as good as *I believe* it is.
In reality, if we were ever in a situation where some unnatural, cataclysmic event (like the creatures in Bird Box) were to befall us, we would never know what they look like. How could we unless we sacrificed ourselves? We would never know what happened to the two characters who stole the car and left the others stranded; we would only know what was before us at the moment when things were happening.
I think what some people mean when they compare this movie to A Quiet Place, which is a phenomenal film, is that you become closer to the characters/families because, like them, you do not know anything beyond what they know. You’re getting the information just as they’re getting it, as though you’re right there with them.
So, that unsure feeling of what to do next or how to solve a problem becomes a unified experience between the characters in the movie and the viewers of the movie.
Anyway, I enjoyed the film and I thought it was well done, despite the criticism it has garnered. I hope other viewers will give it a chance.
