The movie takes one look at how disputes over land and power has overcome any sense of reason that the natives among the land are equal or even seen as human to the Portuguese. I watched this film for my Spanish class, but appreciate the reality of how natives were treated to those seeking enslavement of other human beings. Although this may have been the "norm" at the time, it's important for viewers to reflect on the extent of cruelty that existed during this era. The musical score was beautiful and the panoramic views showed a gorgeous glimpse at an untouched forest where the natives lived in harmony with their environment. Overall, the film glosses over what native life might have been like in these villages and addresses the imperialistic attitudes of the time. 8/10
