I have read these books so many times I'd be pretty confident about going on Mastermind. The show is great adaptation. It's catering to those who have and haven't read the books really well which is incredibly difficult as the books are vast both literally in size and also in the world and characters it creates. To show the full story of just the first book it would take at least 50 episodes and they would be slow watching. And there are 13 books!
The negative reviews I have read appear to be those from fans of the book who don't understand the complexities of putting words into an engaging show. Do not be put off by these reviews as this series will just get better as the story unfolds. Robert Jordan was a legend and Brandon Sanderson who completed the book series after he past did an amazing job and is a legends in his own right (side note: you should read Brandon's books) - and is also helping to produce the series!
Last point. For those who haven't read the books this series has the potential to be as dark and gritty as The Walking Dead by the end. I really hope it continues as some of the scenes and battles will dwarf those seen in Lord of the Rings for pure epic-ness..
