If I could give this film zero stars I would.
I had to watch a french film for my french class and I remembered this film caused a lot of controversy so I decided to watch it. Big mistake.
I am a 16 year old girl and somehow I felt like a pedophile watching this. I can't imagine how uncomfortable a grown adult would be.
**SPOILER**
The scene where Amy gets the girls out of trouble with the security guards is absolutely disgusting. This 50 something year old man is smiling at an 11 year old girl who is dancing provocatively at him. He lets them go with a smirk and I swear I almost threw up.
**END**
I am also a film student so I analyzed this film and I understood the message. Amy is trying to find herself by rejecting her strict Muslim culture but she doesn't accept the hypersexualized western culture either (in the end). However, they went about making this in such a wrong way. The hypocracy in it was so gross. But even ignoring the sexual things, the film in itself was boring. If there wasn't a controversy with this film then no one would bat an eye at it. There was a weak plot and absolutely no character development. Everyone basically went back to the way things were in the beginning so it's like nothing had even happened and they tried to convince you that Amy had "changed."
Just not good
