This book was excellent - it inspired me to visit Europe, especially the east bloc countries in Summer 1984. I chose Yugoslavia: Slovenia - (Melania Trump is from Ljubljana) and Croatia, which has some amazing scenery, beautiful coastline and the capital of Zagreb.
And then Hungary: Lake Balaton, Budapest. These two countries did not require a daily exchange rate.
I rode 3700 miles in 100 days in 1981 and again went for 3 months again in summer 1984.
