This game is proof that not every good game gets the recognition it deserves. If a game of this quality was just a few hours long I’d say it was worth it, but the fact that it manages to be so completely jam packed with content just blows me away. They even went so far as to remaster dozens of levels from Rayman Origins, each completely reworked with the new art style, and speaking of which, I’ve yet to see another game this gorgeous in the 8 years since its release. Every level is packed with detail and dripping with atmosphere; I can’t emphasize this enough, any single level background from this game would be worth hanging on your wall, and that’s no joke.
That’s not to say the characters are less impressive than the backgrounds, however! The heavenly blend of dynamic, rich painted characters and snappy, goofy animations is something that shouldn’t work, but does.
Every level in this game is packed with new ideas, creating an experience where you want to keep playing just to see what new and fun mechanics will be faultlessly slipped into the next stage - and I must emphasize, there’s a ton! Between the just plain high number of levels, the density of secrets, and the unlockable bonus challenges, this game is as brilliant as it is beefy.
The gorgeously hand painted backgrounds, brilliantly animated characters, satisfying physics platforming, hundreds and hundreds of secrets, incredible and eclectic music, satisfying challengers, and a boatload of levels, each of which manages to be unique and interesting, make this one of the most perfectly crafted video games of all time. If this was a fair world, Rayman Legends would be heralded as one of the greatest 2D platformers of all time.
