Fighting Words is targeted toward young adults, discussing important, yet difficult themes including childhood sexual abuse and neglect, drug addiction, parentified children, suicide, PTST, safe touch, speaking up to protect others, bullying. The author’s voice and tone credibly presents the story from the point of view of a ten year old girl, bringing moments of joy and humor to an otherwise serious story. I would highly recommend this book. It’s readable and clearly depicts the way many children experience trauma. The author notes at the end and the sample questions for group discussion were equally well done.
