This is the perfect monster battle movie! I haven't had fun like this at the movies since I was a kid! They don't even attempt to tie anything to actual science, and that works entirely to it's benefit - it trims the try-hard pseudo-realism you usually see in action movies in the last 20 years. At under 2 hours, the plot moves at a good pace, and the story isn't hard to follow.
If you actually pay attention instead of being a cynic who decided to fling themselves into their own personal hell by reviewing movies for a living, you might actually catch yourself enjoying the self-aware winks the filmmakers added for fans.
It's not a thinker, if you go in and hold it to the same bar as you would 'No Country for Old Men', of course you're going to come out of the theater thinking you wasted your time like some old Macaroni.
