A sweet movie. It tells its tale of a boy, his father, an Australian aborigine, and the three pelicans rescued by the boy. The boy had a special connection with the pelican he names Mr. Percival.
The story is a fantasy, and yet credible in a way that allows it to touch the viewer’s heart. But what is particularly real is the bonds of affection between the characters. It is a story of the events of an old man’s past which is narrating to his nearly adult granddaughter, as she is struggling with her current issue, a crisis that frames the narrative.
Although the events, crises and ultimate resolutions are dramatically inevitable, the quiet unfolding of the movie is satisfying.
A good story, enjoyed by all my family.
