1883 had me in tears. Tim McGraw was fantastic in this. The role was made for him. The writing had me in tears because it is the raw human experience in a nutshell. There is no better way to tackle the human experience than through the lens of people who travelled the Oregon Trail.
I mean, I played the game "Oregon Trail" in school on a computer and it looked horrible to die from dysentery or be eaten by Ospreys- but to go through the real time experience of immigrants who fought tirelessly to get to the U.S. to struggle to find "freedom" in this series simultaneously ring true to its past while still maintaining true to the raw human experience of adversary in the present- as the human experience is universal.
I will not give any spoiler alerts but this thing will have you in tears as well- if not- then you are a robot. It's great writing when the ending is bittersweet but leaves one with hope.
