Paolini took as many science fiction tropes he could think of, added some fantasy magic, blended it all together, and then word-vomited all over 850+ pages of this book. The characters are not interesting. He really tries to make them witty but it's too forced and just falls flat. The adult themes, especially the sex scenes, are extremely tacky and cringy. The ultimate boss fights at the end don't seem exciting or remarkable. Maybe a similar story would have worked better in a fantasy setting. His use of some of the softest sci-fi I've ever read just makes the whole setting unbelievable and pathetic. It just felt like he was grasping to be on the level of some of the greats, like Frank Herbert and Brandon Sanderson, but just can't do it.
