I rarely hate a movie. But let me say, I hated this one. I would never want to see it again even if I were just to sit there with a friend and laugh at it. For the first two hours, i would assume, I could barely sit there and watch. I walked into the theater with high hopes and a bag of skittles. I ate all of my skittles within the first 10 minutes because I was so bored. It was so terribly slow that I was waiting for the end for most of what turned out to be the middle. However I tried to keep believing that two points of the plot would cross paths at the very least. Sitting in the theater I lost sense of time; not in a good way either. As in, 5 minutes felt like an eternity. I’m not going to say that with this star studded cast that we didn’t receive excellent performance, because we totally did. But, something about this film just brings it down. After finishing the movie and sitting there trying to figure out what was happening half the time, I think that there could have been an amazing film behind the plot I seemed to piece together, but something about this didn’t work. The pacing before the climax genuinely made me want to get up and leave. I’m glad I pushed through though, because I learned that this movie has absolutely no saving grace! Once I thought I’d be in for a slow, steady, boring ride for the rest of the film, ohhhh how I was wrong. I was happy to see two dots finally connect, (Tex and the hippies re-appearing) but it was executed horribly. All of the sudden, the most exciting thing that has happened all of these past 2 and a half hours is a gory, over-done fight scene. At the first worthwhile plot point, we are meet with disgusting visuals and a weak, too fast closing of this drawn out chapter. Afterwards, it feels like the movie finally decided it wanted to be a comedy. It sprinkles in a solid few minutes of try hard interactions and dialogue that simply feel lackluster. Nothing about the ending was satisfying, maybe except for the two neighbors finally meeting. But then again, it felt rushed and confusing. Aside from the few nice elements, like the old hollywood vibe and acting, I despised this movie.
