I love this film. It cleverly hits a mark of a time in history that promised so much but fell short on delivery. Which is pretty much the subtle message of this great movie. Slick photography, clever sets reflect what was supposed to be the golden era of the sixties. Even though this film is advertised and is supposed to represent the Fifties it more closely represents the late Sixties, which was a time of great change for women and family dynamics with the advent of the Pill and a time when women were choosing to return to work and this film surely refers back to these underlying issues of the times. I love the green bath with its mirrors that emulated the music boxes of the time with multi faceted mirrors. I also appreciated the use of Parker/Chiswell furniture in the furnishing of the homes and the quadrophonic stereos and the constant use of records too. Very nostalgic for those of us that grew up in this time. In fact so many references of change are used in this movie I am still processing this wonderful sci fi movie . The reference to Slim Arron's Palm Spring home suburbs and pool side images were artistically beautiful. The use of sixties fins and chrome cars and house interiors are more in line with this time too. The twist of the enevitable end is predictable but thought provoking. A bit of nostalgic fun, great sex scenes and a thought provoking ending equals a very entertaining flick.
