I absolutely loved this movie. From storytelling, choreographic sequences, dialogue & presentation to characters, this was quite an experience. Honestly, I went in expecting nothing, social media you know, but was pleasently surprised at how brilliant the cinema turned out to be. It may be on OTT soon but I strongly recommend a trip to the theater for best results. Contrary to what twitter will have you believe, Akshay Kumar is fabulous in it and gets ample support from the rest of the cast. Jai Har Har.

Shool is easily the greatest cop film ever made in the history of Indian cinema. The incredibly talented Manoj Bajpayee’s Samar Pratap Singh is nuanced, layered and yet so vulnerable. His emotional range is phenomenal & you would never think he is not the character. Saiyaji Shinde as Bacchu Yadav is an utter revelation & genuinely scared me. His quiet demenaor is spine-chilling & has a terrifying way about him. Every character in the film, however small a role, is written & acted to absolute perfection. Rajpal Yadav’s cameo at the Railway Station sets the tone of the film by exposing the corrupt police system from the word go & eventually sets up Samar’s fight against it. The background music adds thrill to the storyline and the viewer feels pain through Samar & Manjari when they do not get a chance to mourn their daughter’s passing together. Raveena Tandon proved to be a worthy partner, in acting & his wife in the film, to Manoj Bajpayee leaving an impression on the viewers. Shool is a work of art.
