Just a badly done movie.
The acting was unconvincing, and the dialogue was flat at best. It felt more like a movie that was pandering to western ideas of Chinese culture, rather than embracing the culture itself. Not to mention the lack of Chinese representation behind the scenes, there's plenty of talented filmmakers out of Hong Kong and Beijing, so it's puzzling why Disney didn't utilize those resources.
The action was ok, but in line with the last point, I'm sure someone like Yuen Wo Ping would've done a far better job.
My favorite part of the movie would've been the location, and thought there was gorgeous use of scenery. But even that has its problems, given the controversial Uighur situation. So no clue why a different locale wouldn't have been sufficient.
The background music paying tribute to the cartoon is a nice touch.
Not recommended, even for a nostalgia factor.
