Minor Spoilers ahead...warning
As would be expected, the acting in "News of the World" was top notch. However, the real treat is the film's authenticity and heart. The tension between North and South is still raw and ugly, the hatred between racial groups, as they clash with one another, is presented in the context of the 1870s, and may help some get a different perspective on today's sad continuance of the same. Evil deeds exchanged between these groups beget the same in return, while other selfish men try to make a quick profit through murder and child abuse.
This is the backdrop of a story about a lost little girl, who's life has been repeatedly shattered by hatred and loss, and a world weary but caring man, who is surprised by the bond which forms with this tragic young girl, as he attempts to return her to relatives. Still caught up in grief and denial over the loss of his wife and the future he'd planned, he spends the entire film trying to return the young girl to family, only to realize that they have found family in each other.
Thanks to the writers and directors who made a western that felt true to reality, all the way through!
Thanks to the actors and crew, who brought this film to life! It was beautiful, which is rare these days.
