The game is very lackluster and not the best how the original Cooking Mama on the 3DS. The graphs could've been better and overall feels like a shell of the old Cooking Mama and a cash grab by Nintendo. Many of the players that returned to the series will be disappointed. The gameplay is bland. It's the same thing over and over again. Chopping, cracking an egg, and mixing ingredients. And even if you mess up there is little consequence on what will happen because the final product will look the same every time. You could botch all the recipes on purpose and still have the same product, but with a lower score.
For more game mechanic wise, it has motion detection that is awful. If the game doesn't detect your first reaction might get frustrated and do it faster then you will mess up the entire recipe and spill something. You can turn off some game options, but it will time-motion base game. Even then save your money and get a free mobile game that can do the same.
It's not a total garbage fire, it doesn't change anything like the last game, but does its job and has a multiplayer feature which is okay. You can see who chops faster, grabs the waffle first, or be a piece of garlic while the other person chases you. But it's not even worth $37 to play this game. Wait until it goes on Slick Deals and goes for cheap. Personally, I give it 3 stars based on my bias and how this series made up my childhood and gives me the love of cooking with my family but save your $37 and more to get Cup Head or Animal Crossing. (I personally recommend because it has way better gameplay than the shell of a once good game on the 3DS. And no they are no using your gameplay for cryptocurrency calm down.)
