Went to watch it on my birthday last night. I was very excited to view Jordan Peele's new movie "Us", rated at 100% on Rotten Tomato (WOW). Unfortunately the scariest and most intriguing part of the movie was the trailer as the movie was a disappointing mess of a storyline and an even more disappointing movie as a horror film. Character's actions were unbelievable, jump scare timings were mediocre, and there was no real sense of danger throughout the whole movie. The comedic aspect of the movie was fine (made me blow air out of my nostrils a few times) but I wasn't there to watch a comedy. I was there to watch a thriller; a suspenseful horror film, and this movie just failed to deliver. I'm honestly surprised at the amount of praise this movie has received from critics. There was not one point in the entirety of the movie I felt fear or feared for the life of the family. Why did it take so long for the doppelganger family to try and kill the real family? They had the advantage at the beginning, why did they play games with them? It felt like the family survived because they weren't actually allowed to be killed which took away any form of danger and excitement I initially felt. Not to mention, are the clones actually moving in sync of each other? If that's the case how can the father's clone move regardless of the father being on the ground? And where did they get all those shears and uniforms? Where did the clone girl get the tutu to wear while imitating the real girl doing ballet? Did both women forget they were swapped until the clone snapped the real mom's head? How did the underground mom coordinate with all of the clones across America. If they could leave underground the whole time why has none of them done so before? Again, if the clones are forced to do exactly what their real selves did why was the clone girl able to choke the real girl and place her underground? Why didn't clone girl just kill real girl? The only saving grace of this movie was the soundtrack which was the only real horror element in this movie. Overall 2/5 rating for me. I genuinely felt that this movie was lack luster as a thriller/horror genre, and I would not recommend people to watch this in theaters.
