(SPOILERS AHEAD)
The director dabbles in multiple genres -- there's a romcom in here, some drama, and, wait for it, a weird exploration of Electra Complex that resolves with true love ('s kiss -- hence the Disney release?). The characters are not properly sketched out. There are multiple opportunities to delve deeper into Rinku's psychiatric disorder but it is left unexplored and the "love cures all" bumper sticker message is reminiscent of how mental illness is often portrayed in Bollywood and beyond (reminds me of Silver Linings Playbook).
Dhanush is a joy to watch, no doubt, but his talent is wasted between Sara Ali Khan playing her usual loud and belligerent self and the plot falling flat after the audience discover that Sajjad is a fiction of Rinku's imagination. Oh, and her dad too. Just. No.
