As a Canadian, this is a film that reinforces sterotypes and continues to downplay Canada’s history and indigenous identity (RCMP were founded on separating indigenous children from their families to be taken into residential schools in a direct attempt at cultural genocide). I was also SO excited initially when I foolishly thought he would actually throw some recognition to SK and MT. But he skipped right over them; we’re used to it, so whatever. But Saskatchewan was the site of the NW Rebellion, so that seems pretty relevant. Anyways, sure let’s get right to the city and continue to ignore all the real, rural and indigenous residents of Canada, but glorify celebrities who’ve been disconnected from the realities of the country for years. Also, Tim hortons is owned by the US and is actual trash.
If you’re going to set out to shed light on Canadians, maybe include ALL Canadians. Especially indigenous ones. I would also suggest breaking away from the accepted tropes and jokes, and actually try for some authenticity and originality.
