This is a valiant effort to present a science fictional duality of cultures, both scientific and corporate. It has the feel of “Avatar” and “The Martian” Intermixed with today’s earthly struggles between environmental issues and politics.
I binge-watched season 2 and, for the most part, enjoyed it. Admittedly, though, I fast-forwarded through some of the popularized political intrigue to get to those scenes where the problems of the day occurred, were tackled and usually solved with an extra measure of effort necessitated by the Martian scenario.
The portrayed frustrations, concern and urgency faced by the members of both communities were moving and often felt genuine for the circumstances. The corporate character’s behavior was sometimes trite but redeeming, in the end.
I would like to see another season with more emphasis on the day-to- day efforts to survive in the Mars environment, including both successes and failures, where the community has to “science the s@&t” out of the situation. Apollo 13’s level of detail is a good model.
This series brought me closer to the feel that one might have trying to survive on Mars. I am too old to be part of one of these Mars teams; so I am pleased to have had the vicarious experiences evoked by watching “Mars.”
