Butchered the characters. in the books, butler and Juliet are both Eurasian, holly hates his guts because he kidnapped her. They changed the entire reason there was a siege on fowl manor in the first place, and removing the need for a redemption arch for Artemis. In the books, he is a reformed criminal. They introduced cudgeon and opal into the story too soon. Artemis is meant to be a cunning mastermind, and a criminal. he does not say things like “dad”, he says father. He does not shoot or fight, he has butler to do that. He does not go outside, in the book it says “hours spent in front of a computer screen bleached the glow from his skin”. He would never go outside. people say, it’s a movie of course it’s going to be different than the books. What they don’t understand is that the movie is still called Artemis fowl. It is meant to be based off the book. That allows for change, but not large ones that massively impact the plot and characters. It would have been a decent movie if you removed every trace of the books from the title and characters. It simply does not have enough common with the books to be called Artemis Fowl.
