Wow, this show is unbelievably good all the way around, I haven't enjoyed something so thoroughly since the first season of Game of Thrones. The acting is very convincing, the camera work is good, the storyline feels realistic, and there is no obvious, gratuitous propaganda thrown in. It really captures the essence of what living under an empire with complete dictatorial control must be like and shows that a rebellion is a series of hard, amoral choices by imperfect characters taking life-ending risks. It also makes me think about how for example the Bolsheviks must have viewed the Romanovs and how they must have viewed themselves. They thought the rebellion was a just cause but it ended up being the worst thing that ever happened to Russia, ushering in tragedy that is still being played out today. It also makes you think about what strategies the Republic would use to control its worlds after it was old, content, and used to power. Would it really be that much different than the Empire? Power always corrupts...
