What if plot armour is the characters' power? That's the premise of this show, and I think it's very interesting. But the titular character is imo the weakest component of the show. The "taking things too literally" humor may be funny in small doses, but this is literally the main character's whole schtick. He's like Doctor Who without the Doctor's intelligence. The companions and Bart are the best part of season 1.
