I loved it. Yes, I know it has terrible reviews but I honestly loved it. I didn’t expect to, given that it’s difficult to adapt an author as excellent as Steve Erickson, & I also know James Franco has been “cancel-cultured”. But still: the music is perfection... energetic as it fits with the kinetic visuals: colors alternate “trippingly”; the cuts are intricate, intriguing... there’s a lot of symbolism, especially if you love films. I happen to love A Place in the Sun & Apocalypse Now, & really miss Dennis Hopper & even Robert Evans. And saving the best for last: Jacki Weaver’s character, based on a real film editor from times when women weren’t exactly exalted - she gives the film emotional heft. ... Did I mention I really love this film????
